“Writing is not life, but I think that sometimes it can be a way back to life." Stephen King

This workshop is for those who would like to explore how writing might help them to reduce stress and focus more. It is also beneficial to those who are suffering from chronic pain/illness or disability, suffering from short-term or ongoing mental health problems.

After nine years of dealing with spinal operations and recovery, during which my mental health also took a battering, I know that writing has been a huge part of my healing.

Our ability to tell stories is integral to our survival. Humans are all naturally gifted story tellers, and writing has intellectual, physiological, and emotional benefits. Writing down responses to experiences helps us to reflect, and therefore process, our thoughts.

There is no need to share your writing with others as this can be a very personal experience.

Participants need no previous creative writing experience or ability to write well. All that is needed is a pen and paper, and a willingness to enhance your own wellbeing.

Flash Fiction with Kathryn Crowley - COST €30 (Plus Eventbrite Fee €3.15)

Sun 21st Sep 12:00pm - 2:00pm (IST)

Flash fiction is a ‘short short story’. In China, it’s called a ‘Minute Story.’ It’s also called a ‘Palm-Size Story’ or ‘Smoke-Long Story,’ where it promises to let the reader relish the sights and sounds of an entire make-believe world before he/she has time to finish a cigarette.

Reading and writing short fiction is great fun. Even for those beginning to take tentative steps in writing fiction, there is great satisfaction in finishing a short piece. For more experienced writers, there are great challenges in carving away the excess and compressing your story into what is absolutely essential.

Join Kathryn Crowley in this workshop to discuss flash fiction and read some flash fiction. However, most importantly, we will use prompts and our imaginations to write flash fiction
